IT IS THE INSTALLER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THE FOLLOWING

  • Assembly and installation as per manufacturer’s manual
  • All installation procedures must be done according to correct plumbing practices
  • Should any shut-off valves be installed prior to the unit for maintenance, these should be installed in such as way as to prevent unauthorized access and or shut-off
  • Units installed in a location that requires no more than ten (10) seconds to reach from the hazardous area
  • Units installed in a location at the same level as the hazardous area, to which the approach is free of any obstructions
  • In the case of the hazard being of a caustic or acidic nature, the unit(s) shall be installed directly adjacent to this hazard
  • Units installed in a location which is identified by a highly visible sign, which is visible from the area that it is designed to serve
  • Flow rate requirement:
    • Installed and connected to an uninterruptible supply line of flushing potable fluid, with a minimum flow rate of:
      • 11.4 l/min (3 gpm) for eye wash stations for a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes
      • 75.7 l/min (20 gpm) for safety showers for a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes

  • Pressure requirement
    • All SPRAYDRENCH® products are designed to operate at 310 kPa (45 lb.sq in)
    • All SPRAYDRENCH® products are designed to operate at a minimum pressure of 200 kPa (30 lb/sq in)
    • All SPRAYDRENCH® products are designed to operate at a maximum pressure of 550 kPa (80 lb/sq in)
    • In the case of excess pressure, a pressure-reducing valve must to be installed in the supply line before the unit

 

  • Any safety shower may not be installed closer than 406mm (16”) from any wall, barrier or obstruction
  • Any eye wash unit may not be installed closer than 150mm (6”) from any wall, barrier or obstruction
  • Should the waste (fluid) produced by the emergency equipment / operator be of a hazardous nature, consideration must be given to the correct disposal of this fluid
  • All emergency equipment which is installed in areas of potential frost, must be freeze-protected accordingly
  • The water source must also be protected against any temperatures in excess of 38 degree Celsius (100 degree Fahrenheit)

TESTING

All plumbed shower and eye wash equipment must be activated and tested on a weekly basis and for a period long enough to clear the supply line of any sediment build-up or microbial contamination, due to still water degradation.
